Re: Smart home

Be prepared the products to be dropped without warning and left unsupported. Think Hive cameras etc. Cloudy has many advantages but the massive disadvantage of Mr X can decide the server no longer makes sense and you own a brick. Personally I recommend using a series of stand alone systems - do you ...

Re: Architect Recommendation

Try www.Olbc.Co.Uk

They are not as expensive as the branding might suggest and just get planning done with no drama.

Re: NSL fly tipping fines on behalf of Wandsworth Council

Small Claims Court rulings do not create a precedent. It is highly likely they won’t even send anyone to the hearing or if they do it will be someone who isn’t legally qualified trying to bamboozle you to settle in the court steps because….. I agree this is shakedown stuff based on statics mill evid...

Re: Reckless driver in Stormont Road / Clapham Northside

I’m conflicted I’m a cyclist and I race I race occasionally. I drive a large vehicle to tow for work. However, I’m not an enthusiast in cargo bike for kids. The SUV drivers actions were: on the facts described illegal - didn’t give 1.5m space - used horn aggressively rather than to warn - caused con...

Re: Solicitor for neighbour dispute

I would be very cautious about using a solicitor in this realm: you could well end up spending a ton of money and just have a bigger headache.

It would be useful if you could give a vague outline of the issues as there are many other avenues to pursue first off.

Re: Cost of converting large cellar v digging basement

I assume you mean 6 foot of headroom?

The main cost is the underpinning and steelwork.

One of the smarter companies has substituted electric diggers for expensive workers to keep a lid on run away labour costs.

All construction costs have rocketed but are levelling off now.

Re: Taking pebble dashing off the front of the house

Generally sound advice.

It can be easier to go over the pebbledash with flat render.

However, pebbledash is usually made with hard cement and it doesn’t breathe.

This can be an opportunity for external insulation.

My Victorian house is stucco and I’ve left it alone.

Re: Is it time to ban 4x4s?

I see - so the proposal is to ban all large heavy vehicles? So logically we are going to ban buses, lorries and delivery vehicles too? Yes, that includes the supermarket home delivery vehicles. Gosh the silence - I can hear a pin drop and mums all over nappy valley swallowing hard. Please try Googli...

Re: Planning permission to install air conditioning in Wandsworth: who has experience? Recommended installers?

Try Colin at Cool Electrics https://coolelectrics.com/ I run a construction company and get very annoyed with M&E guys. Colin is a refreshing change. Most of this thread is nonsense so ignore it. Every condenser unit is a potential heat pump. Every heat pump can be used for cooling….. If you hav...

Re: Any experience with Community Fibre? Reliable? Or price too good to be true?

Mixed is the honest answer. I’ve been using them for our business since 2017/8. It is way better than VM can ever be and it is a true my symmetrical service which is wonderful for uploading massive files or backing up your computer. Line speeds are really good. But and there is a big but…..when thin...

Re: Shellac wrecking my nails

It depends what you are using. The usual nail bar adhesives for nail extension which are based around styrene, polyester and polyvinyl resins which are not very good for you at all. An even bigger issue is the MEKP (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) that is used as the hardener. These types of MEKP syst...

Re: Excluded from school sports day

This is unacceptable by any standards. I feel terrible for the hurt this has caused your child. Particularly if they *wanted* to participate. The issue is that mainstream schools often taken on SEN kids but haven’t got a clue what to do with them and the ‘solutions’ always revolve round 1-1 which ac...

Re: Friend copying my house design room by room.

Firstly, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Really. Secondly is your friend autistic? There is something in the circular thinking that makes me suspect that. Does she obsess, imitate or copy in other areas? Thirdly if I lost my rag every time my competitors copied my designs, web text etc ...
