Eton House or Hornsby House

Postby ccsmummy » Wed Sep 10, 2014 9:27 am

Dear All,

I need your opinion on these schools, we arrived to the uk with two boys and we have the opportunity to get them into one of these fantastic schools. We have the information from the prospectus and will be visiting both in the fall, but i would like your views and help on each one of those.

I am afraid I still feel a bit lost and insecure regarding schools and I could definitely use some help.

Thank you

It depends on where you live in my opinion. Both are fantastic schools, not too competitive (eg Thomas') or dare I say, "posh" (Broomwood Hall, I'm looking at you!) with great facilities, excellent all rounders, if you ask me. Visit both schools, get a feel for both and you'll know. And if there's nothing in it between the two then go to the school closer to your home.

Eaton House goes up to 13
It's only coed til 8

Hornsby is coed, and kids stay til 11

Are you wanting day school from 11 or boarding school?

Eton house isn't coed at all . The girls school is on the same site but they are totally different schools and very rarely mix for anything .
We love eton house but I think the choice depends on where you live, if you want coed or single sex, and if you want them to stay until 11/13

I echo the posters above - definitely go with your feeling after the tour and personally I would also choose the school closer to my house.

The feel is TOTALLY different.

If you want to go down the traditional British "leave at 13 to go to public school " route then it has to be Eaton House.

If you want the more open, leave at 11 London Day School then it has to be HH.

Its an interesting question and one I hadn't really thought about before as they are such different schools. Bit like a Porsche and a Range Rover, both great but very different uses.

Hope this helps

Re. EH - I understood that at least some of the boys leave at 11 to go to other London day schools (Dulwich, etc).
Is that not the case in your experiences?

Ladies,

thank you so much for your feedback!

You all mentioned the same thing: go to the school and get a feel, so i will follow your advice.

Thank you again Nappy Valley
