Going rate for a cleaner in SW11

Postby chorister » Sun Feb 04, 2018 3:16 pm

We have had the same really excellent and totally trustworthy cleaner for several years. It is a long while since we gave her a rise, and she is certainly the sort of person who would never ask. We would hate to be underpaying her, so advice on the current going rate would be very much appreciated. Thank yo in advance.

We have had ours for many years now and she has asked for a pay raise about every 3 years. She is now at £14/hr. She is super efficient, trustworthy and just really lovely to have around it’s totally worth it to us! She is always really uncomfortable asking but I’m glad she does. I think it’s a great that you are recognizing a job well done and saving her the uncomfortable task of having to ask for it.

We were paying ours £11 but she's had some time off due to illness and we've found the temp / agencies etc we've used nowhere near as good so will be giving her a pay rise on her return to make sure we keep her. Temps we've used in the meantime have suggested £11 / hour for regular cleaning but £12 or £13 for ad hoc.

Same as the first reply - we pay ours £14 per hour with regular bonuses. We’ve had him for a few years now and he is wonderful. You can’t underestimate the trust you need for a cleaner!

We pay £13.50 per hour and have her for 10 hours a week. She is fantastic and incredibly reliable and thorough.

Hi all
Great to hear you all value your cleaners so highly. Is anyone's cleaner looking to pick up any extra work by any chance? It's so hard to find someone that is really good and reliable. I'm in Streatham Hill and looking for around 4 hours a week.
Many thanks

Ours gets £40 for 3 hours. She is paid through an agency though and I'm not entirely sure how much of the £40 the agency keeps.

Never less than £10 an hour.

Our amazing cleaner has been with us for almost 8 years and I tend to give her a small raise every Christmas, along with a £100 xmas bonus.

She comes 4 hours on a Monday, 2 on a Friday, and we give her £100 a week, so it's almost £17 an hour, but I pay more for the convenience of her coming on a Friday for only 2 hours (which involves travel time of almost the same amount. She frequently stays beyond her time if there's something that needs doing, and she knows us and our house so well we barely need to even tidy up before she comes.

This year I've also started to pay her for 6 weeks holiday as well, as I've realised she's effectively on a zero hours contract and that makes me feel uncomfortable. I think she deserves to be able to rely on us for income.

To be honest, we'd really be lost without her, so I pay her really well in recognition of this.

I second the people who pay more and have a reliable cleaner...
I started at 10h/hour 7 years ago and now I pay my cleaner 15/hour, plus presents at Christmas etc..

She has been really faithful, came to check our house whilst we were on holiday and the alarm rang (of course!), if I really forget to buy cleaning products she'll go get them on the way, etc.
This is priceless, especially if you're both working.
As with everything in life: you get what you pay for.
