Marriage counselling

Postby phigoldenspiral » Mon Jul 31, 2017 10:18 am

Good morning
I know this has been asked before in previous years but I was wondering if I could get some up to date recommendations for marriage counsellors in the area. I know the Awareness Centre is an option, however they seem to have limited availability in the evenings (both of us work). Can anyone please let me know if there is someone they would wholeheartedly recommend? Counselling and not coaching please. It is so daunting to do something so important just via a Google search. Thank you so much.

Hi
I would recommend Pam Custers. She is based in Wimbledon. http://www.pamcusters.co.uk
Good luck, working with a counsellor is often dependent on whether or not you "click"...difficult to tell at first admittedly but keep pursuing until you both feel happy to work with them.

Hi phigoldenspiral

I would urge you to read 'The Relationship Handbook' by Dr George Pransky.

Would be useful reading for all marriage counsellors, as well as those married seeking support.

Feel free to PM me if you want to have a conversation, I might be able to help you have a less daunting experience...

There is a brilliant video series that I have been through with my husband that has some great strategies to improve/save marriages. The guy wrote one of the best selling marriage books of all time. It's free on YouTube:

1: How Dr Harley learned to save marriages

2: His Needs

3: Her Needs (1 of 2)

5: Love Busters (1 of 4)

6: Love Busters (2 of 4)

7: Love Busters (3 of 4)

9: The Plan (1 of 2)

They also do telephone marriage counselling based on principles and have loads of free online materials at http://www.marriagebuilders.com

Hope that helps!

We used Sarah Demaree at the Awareness Centre (we would meet at her home in Pimlico which was a nicer environment and better timing) and we both felt she was good. We have had to put in a lot of work since the counselling but I would choose Sarah again and happily recommend her. It is worth trusting your instinct - the first counsellor we met with didn't gel with us.

Alarm bells ring at 'a lot of work' put in to a marriage. Shouldn't require 'work' at all! Will point to 'The Relationship Handbook' by Dr George Pransky - no 'work' required... it is a marriage not a career!
