Re: Recommendations for painter/ decorator

Hi,

I couldn't recommend Ian Day decorators enough. Ian and his team decorated our house in 2016 when we first had a lot of renovation work done and we had him back to do some more work following further building works this year.

Good luck!

Re: Decorating Quotes - £8k to £16k?

I would recommend Ian Day Decorators: http://iandaydecorator.co.uk/ We had our house renovated and redecorated last year and the decorating costs without colour paints (white included) were around £7k. Now, ours is a smaller space than yours - 2 bed Edwardian terrace with a loft conversion adding 2 ...

Re: Decorator

Hi, I would very much recommend Ian Day decorators. We had our whole house (4 bed Edwardian terrace) in Tooting renovated last year and Ian did a fantastic job decorating it top to bottom, paying attention to detail to leave a fantastic finish to all surfaces including painting custom-built, built-i...

Re: Recommendation for sash window repair and replacement?

I couldn't recommend London Box Sash highly enough: http://www.londonboxsash.com/sash-windows-london/ They were easy to deal with, competitive (but not cheap!) and build all their windows in their workshop in Mitcham rather than outsource abroad. They were the least fuss tradesmen we dealt with in a...

Re: Which shutter company to choose?!

I think they're much of a muchness. Were you sold "we sell the same shutters as John Lewis"? Basically, S:CRAFT shutters are made in China to order but are managed and installed by numerous British firms. We used Shutters Up http://www.shuttersup.co.uk/ who trekked all the way from Bromley...

Re: Plumber recommendations

I would always recommend Maintracts Services. We had all of our plumbing work (bar the horrible loft extension) in our full house refurb in 2016 done by Maintracts, from a new boiler installation, new radiators, new water main etc. and Malcolm and his team are fab: http://www.maintracts.co.uk. For a...

Re: Builders for a loft conversion

Please, please, please do not use Simply Loft/ Build London / South London Lofts - it's the same company and they are simply awful! We went with them as they do run many projects and gave a competitive price. But from the second we'd signed on the dotted line, they were a complete nightmare. People ...

Re: Glastonbury - how to do it posh?

Ha ha, I've just seen this having come back from Glastonbury and know I'm a good few years late replying to the original poster but thought I would anyway. So there is a way to "do it posh" these days although flushing loos are out of the question. What you're after is a Worthy View pre-er...

Re: Wandsworth Sash Windows: A company to avoid

I'm sure I've mentioned these guys before, but if you're looking for great sash windows, we had the most pleasant experience with London Box Sash: http://www.londonboxsash.com/ We recommended them to our new neighbour across the road and his windows are looking great too! They use an Accoya wood pro...

Re: Carpenters?

Hi there, My wife and I have just had James Webber from the Home Project Company do a lot of building and carpentry work in our home in Tooting and are absolutely thrilled with the results. This included all new skirting boards, a radiator enclosure/cover and custom-built wardrobes for the bedroom a...

Re: Loft conversion - Fire / Building Control

Thanks for your detailed response Kenelm. We are using a D&B company who are "managing" a third-party building controller to provide sign-off. The D&B firm are requesting I add in all sorts of extras to ensure we meet fire regulations and so that even further (more expensive) chang...

Loft conversion - Fire / Building Control

Hi, My house is currently having a loft conversion carried out and I am trying to understand what is actually required in order for the works to pass Fire Regulations from the building controller. The house is currently a standard 2-story 2-bed, 1 bath, 1 lounge, 1 kitchen/diner Edwardian terrace an...

Re: Electrician needed

I've been using Darren at D.E.C Electrical Contractors for some minor electrical works and he's been great so far.

Might be worth bringing him in to look over your needs and quote.

Re: Heating & Hot Water System Replacement/Plumber

We are currently doing a lot of plumbing works in our house including installing a new storage boiler, removing the old, moving it's location, installing new rads etc. We're using Maintracts Services http://www.maintracts.co.uk/ as they're very local to us in SW17 and get great checkatrade feedback....
