South London Lofts have a great deal to answer for. I can't believe they're still allowed to stay in business. They use Trust Pilot (where it's super easy to post fake reviews) and other social media to promote, yet are complete cowboys. So regret using them for our build.

Hi

Sorry this reply is late ! My husband and I just moved to Fulham and have been using a contractors local in the area. They renovated our new house and added a kitchen extension. Had no problems with them, super friendly and skilled ! if you're around Fulham and the south west I would recommend getting a free quote from them !

Hi,

I'd like to recommend DBL UK. They come highly recommended by our neighbours both for their ability to deliver a high end product as well as a great team of trades people. All of whom are highly skilled and knowledgeable. They are also (according to my neighbours) very polite and always have a smile.

Give DBL a call on 02071128988Check their website also

Good luck with you projects!

We've used Right Build. Call them, they are affordable and reliable.

We had similar work with the addition of a basement carried out recently by Builders GB, to get a feel for their services my partner and I decided to talk to some of their customers first hand as they are fairly busy around our area and easy to spot as they board up properties with their signs etc. It was a case of knocking on a few doors and simply asking how good they really are, it worked for us.

My advice is talk to people who are using the company that you're thinking of signing up with and work it out from there.

HI I haven't used simply loft but would recommend a great, reliable local builder Jon Cash, from Hilltop Construction jon@hilltopconstruction.co.uk

South London Lodge ( run by Craig Taylor ) had been expelled from the Federation of Master Builders on 2018 , like his sister company Build London was in 2017. All is said. This company tried to gag us ( like other dissatisfied clients ) against keeping deposit for doing no work. They argue about need to pay third party either who were already directly paid by us or who doesn’t exist. It says a lot. Happy to share emails trail. Matter is reported to Council , Citizen advice consumers services organisation and court.

Hi Ellen,
I dont know these companies but we have done our extension and loft with Mylondonextensions and I can only recommend them. Competitive, on time and a great final result. Talk to David, I'm sure you can find his mobile number on his website, he is very helpful even before we start. Good luck with your project!

I have no experience with any of those firms. But we used decimus design (www.decimusdesign.co.uk) for the drawings and as project managers for our extension. And coolmore construction (www.coolmoreconstruction.com) as builders. Very happy to reccomend both. Good luck with your project :D

Simply loft we're a disaster. Took over twice as long as they said, had no project plan so we spent 16 weeks never knowing if someone would show up that day or not. The work could have taken about 5 weeks if they had worked continuous 5 day weeks.
We went weeks unable to contact them. It was hell.

I don't think they did a great job either, it's structurally sound (I hope) but rough round the edges finishing.

We used Simply Lofts. They were good. Can't PM you, but if you can PM me then happy to reply with some more feedback. But generally thought they were good, on time and budget. But depends which builder they allocate the project to.

Sorry haven't used or even gotten quotes from those companies. We are in the middle of a project at the moment and I would recommend speaking to at least 4-5 former customers before making up your mind. The companies should be able to give you references and you can go to people's houses to see the finished work (most people are kind enough to give you a tour and tell you what went right and what went wrong). I'd try to find some former customers yourself as well (here or elsewhere).

do you have an architect? If not, pay close attention where the steel supports go and at what level, whether they will be embedded in the roof or will be boxed in (cheaper but uglier), whether you will have downstands in the kitchen or not, if the contractor will double up your existing joists in the loft (which consumes headheight) or maximise headheight by building off the joists already there (may need a steel in between joists). So many considerations...
