We love brands such as ILA, Omorovicza, balance me, Green People, The Organic Pharmacy, Mauli, all of whom are natural, backed by science. The leading brands are often not good at all, as a lot of their money goes on advertising and marketing - my expert says that some of them, even big names, are the beauty equivalent of a cheeseburger. It does matter what you put on your face as the skin absorbs it, so personally I avoid chemical-heavy formulations.

It's true though that good skin is based on several factors: genetics, not smoking, drinking lots of water, staying out of the sun etc.

I am doing a bit of PR for a wonderful new product called Rock Rose Beauty. The founder, Lindsay, discovered a cream in Portugal that contained rock rose oil - a known healer. She was going through chemo at the time and after a few weeks noticed that her skin was looking amazing. So she has developed a range of products based around rock rose, all containing the best quality essential oils. The scent of one of the ranges is more intense too - jasmine, rock rose, evening primrose, geranium, rose, etc – as people with cancer often lose or diminish their sense of smell. The moisturising balm, healing balm and face oil are available through livebetterwith.com - a cancer and wellbeing site. The rest of the range will launch this month at rockrosebeauty.co.uk - wonderful products.

I am sorry but I stand by my original comments about Arbonne. I thought the products were very average and I hated the hard sell approach. Pyramid selling is illegal, but it's similar in my view... just as it is with Utility Warehouse, etc. Each to their own though - but any company that promises reps huge commission and cars etc must be sacrificing the quality of the products somewhere along the line.

Hi, just like to clear up a few points about the Arbonne comment. Fair enough if you personally didn't like the products. But Arbonne is not a pyramid scheme  :D  Those schemes are illegal in the UK and it's just not that company. The reason why Abonne can offer gifts and cars to their consultants is because they have no other overhead in the company. They don't pay celebrities to advertise products they don't use, they don't pay for TV commercials, they don't pay for retail expenses. All the money made goes into the products & consultants (they earn 35% commission) The order goes straight from the manufacturer to the clients door step. The company has been in business for 39 years in 6 countries worldwide. Just because the products aren't in boots doesn't mean that they have a hidden agenda.

Elephant dung worked well for some friends when we lived in the jungle

All my friends are dead now, though

From the Guardian:

Does the ‘foreskin facial’ mark the end of the world?
Kate Beckinsale is the latest celebrity to try the treatment, which uses a serum derived from babies’ circumcised penises. Has anti-ageing finally gone too far?

Yum!

What does everyone think of Jurlique? I came across it again at Stylist Live and got a couple of testers and thought it was wonderful! Especially love the rose scented range...

Also bought an amazing gadget to smooth out my chicken neck and it really works. Although do wonder if it was purely a marketing thing when they say it's originally £850 and that they're doing it for £200 at the show and then knock down to £130 when i say i can't spend that much...

Hi

My daughter sells Arbonne and I've been using the RE9 advanced set to combat my ageing ! so far it's working great, its improved the texture and brightness of my skin. It's roughly the same price for clarins or loreal but you get a lot more in the set actually.

But I think for the deep lines cosmetic procedures such as filler are the best results.

Cien is from lidl. After reading raving reviews a few years ago about Lacura from Aldi I decided to give it a go.I haven't been using anything else since.I use Lacura Refreshing Face Wash Gel and Lacura Q10 Renew Anti-Wrinkle Multi-Intensive Serum and I find that this combination works well for my skin.I also tried Lacura SOY Restorative Night Cream for mature skin but I found it to thick for me.The creams are inexpensive but very good and I would recommend you to try them. There is also the very popular Lacura Caviar cream (apparently as good as Cream de La Mer) but I haven't tried it yet. We also use the sun lotions and find them excellent quality.

Thank you for your views - Pyramid schemes are illegal in the UK and as we are booming and have been here for 10 years I can confirm Arbonne is not a pyramid scheme. As to the quality of the products anyone who knows anything about skincare will know they are good (in my and thousands of others opinion too). Retail products lose up to 85% of the cost in the process to get it to the store. Direct selling brands don't have the same overheads so have more money to put into ingredients! But this is all in my humble opinion. Have a great week!
Yes I agree with Jillloveshealthy ! Arbonne is misjudged in the UK as it goes against the tradition of selling products. It's not a pyramid scheme  😂 and the quality of the products is amazing ! And no I'm not a consultant, I've been using the products for just over a year and love them x

I love this thread, so much useful information.

I would say it all depends on your skin type and lifestyle. By all means eat well, supplement and exercise/ Yoga is best ;). However, Topical treatments do work and we are definitely blessed with choices aswell as cursed. where do you start?

Vitamin A and Vitamin C are possibly the only two ingredients that will deliver reversible results in skincare. Vitamin A (Retinol) is now available in a safe non prescriptive formula. Botanical source which does not cause sensitivity and doesn't come with down time. **Retynil palmitate.
Vitamin C needs to be stable so don't use anything that promises otherwise.

Other products containing Glycolic acid (min 10%) will refine your skin and minimise the existing fine lines. these usually come as a Pad treatment you can use 1-3 times a week, and also available in creams which usually can cost more but are very effective.

Red light therapy and Electro-current therapy are two painless treatments which you can have for home use now, these little machines are appx around £150 and they are yours for life. these are very effective in toning and smoothing the skin with no side effects. FDA approved and guaranteed results when used properly. Most salons offer these as part of a facial, and you can head to Harvey Nichols for a 15mins treatments to try first. Check out NU FACE devices.

Natural skincare and oils will only work if they are of high grade and cold pressed, otherwise forget it.
When mixed correctly you can get some amazing results:
Lavender oils can produce the same effects of botox, by relaxing the muscles. Neroli oils will reduce dark spots and brighten the skin by improving circulation. Rose and Geranium oils are highly anti aging and anti inflammatory . and so on.
We have a couple of local mums who produces some beautiful oil blends, and skincare check it out: https://www.rosalena.co.uk/

There is lots of info and choices out there, but that's good because we are all different.

Thanks for posting this question, I really enjoyed reading through everyone's responses. This seem like a good discussion group in the making, ladies sharing beauty secrets :)

Personally I wouldn't touch Arbonne with a bargepole. Awful quality, pyramid selling and the agents make a fortune, which means that the quality of the product has to be compromised somewhere along the line. Just my opinion though!

I am 57 but often pass for 10-20 years younger, due to my skin! While it is in many ways genetic, I do believe in using good-quality face creams. I work with a health, beauty and wellness journalist and her site thisistheantidote.com features some lovely products. I personally prefer not to put a load of chemicals on to my face so prefer to use natural brands that still have effective active ingredients. Some of these are great, e.g. La Spiezia, Evolve, French Girl oil, Mauli, etc etc. Sanoflore is another great new brand and there are others like Romilly Wilde. It's well worth checking these out. I am a bit intermittent with my regime, but try to exfoliate twice a week with Murad exfoliating cream, then I use a good eye cream and spritz my face with Evolve Facial Mist. Finish with serum or moisturiser. I also swear by night creams and micellar water!
