“Thank you for my helping husband after road accident”. Local shop closed due to rat infestation. Most popular 2014 baby names released. Local A level and GCSE results. Bin men not recycling?

Dear NappyValleyNetter,

The most popular baby names for 2014 have been released (click here).

It’s a bit of a sore point in my household. For our eldest I managed to keep a tight hold over the naming rights but when our youngest appeared Mr NVN “kicked off” and demanded, at the very minimum, full decision making authority over her first name.

He eventually settled on being an “influencer” for her second.

Anyway, in a moment of madness I relented and agreed to copy his Great Grandmother’s nickname, so my daughter now answers to monikers synonymous with Edwardian scamps and Victorian scullery maids.

Last week we were in a shop in the Lake District when my eldest ran excitedly across the room. “Look, look a DVD with her name on it!”

He pointed towards my daughter, “I’ve NEVER seen that name anywhere! Like ever, ever, ever! We have to buy it.”

Errr, that DVD would be “Betty Blue” and I don’t think we’ll be watching it as family for a very long time.
