theft of luxury cars...

Postby Wheresmyschool? » Fri Oct 13, 2017 1:14 pm

Hi
There is an article in the Stdandard about high end BMWs being stolen via "relay attacks".

I know of at least three X5's that were stolen in Nappy Valley using a similar technique and the way it works is that they use a device to boost your real key's signal.

A cheap (and quick way) of stopping this from happening is to use a Faraday cage. I know that sounds a bit like hassle but duct tape and foil might do it.

would an old-fashioned wheel-lock work? That's what the police said to my neighbour when the keys to her pricey car were knicked when they broke into her house. Admittedly not a good look, but better than losing the car.

The more X5s broken up for parts and shipped to Africa the better, imo.

Our Land Rover was stolen from our off street parking in Balham while we were away on holidays.
We suspect they used this device to get the signal of the keys from the house. Be aware!
