Solar panels on roof / rear extension

Postby Stephen Cobalt » Tue Oct 10, 2017 2:35 pm

We are about to do some work on our house, including construction of a rear mansard roof and rear ground floor extension. The rear of our house faces south by southwest.

We would like to fit solar panels to the mansard roof and on top of the rear extension.

Does anyone know of a firm that has fitted panels locally that could look at our plans and tell us what could be possible?

We are grateful for anyone who can share their experiences.

Hi

Community Renewable Energy Wandsworth (www.crew-coop.london) is running a collective purchase scheme at the moment. We are planning installs for early November.

If you are interested in a quote we could send some one round. Call Toby on 07515968615 and he can arrange a site visit.

Regards

Toby

We would be very interested in featuring this in our emails/articles. I've often wondered why we don't have more solar in London so would love to find out if it can be a success...

BTW the two original mails look like plants or ads..

Why don't we see solar cells on houses like we all wish we did? Because they are not cost effective. Simple.
Construction of the cells. Huge environmental impact in terms of pollution, material extraction, and transport costs
Fitting of the cells to the roofs
Method of feeding electricity to the grid and exchange of payments.
electricity output is tiny.
Maintenance of the cells, cable, control units etc

If I was in any way cost effective it would be law to have solar roof tiles or full cell layouts for all new build houses, offices and apartments.
It hasn't happened.
BTW I love the idea of renewables, but until solar cells are cost effective they will only soothe the conscience, not the energy problems.
Get the government to change legislation or your bill will be bigger than any saving you could make.
