My sister will be moving from China into Clapham/Battersea area with her 4 year old daughter end of February due to her work secondment.

As it is project-based, it is currently a 2 year-contract, but there might be a risk that they stay here less than a year if anything goes wrong with the project. Question is:
1) Is it possible for her to find a place for her kid into any nursery/childminder/preschool shorter than a year?
2) If yes, where do I even start? (As I haven't got any child and I have no clue what needs to be done at such a short-notice)
3) Her daughter doesn't speak much of English at this stage.

PS: They will be living somewhere near me, close to Northcote Road.

Hi,

When is her birthday? If she is going to turn 5 any time between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014, she can start Reception at full time school in September this year... The closing date for applications for school places has now passed, but if she has an address for where she will be permanently staying once she comes over, she can make a late application, and explain the circumstances. She will then be on a waiting list for a school.

It might be worth here speaking to the council about it.

Between February and September, it will be pretty hard to find a place anywhere at a nursery I would think, it may just be a case of ringing round a few places... Does she need full time childcare?

Thanks for your info. I've asked my sister about her birthday. I felt a bit shamed as an aunty as it turned out she's not even 3 (born on April 27th of 2010)!

What kind of school she should attend? Nursery? Childcare?

May I also know roughly how much they'll cost?

Hi, thanks for checking. I rang the family care service from the council - they've been really helpful and provided me some good advice. So I think I'm sorted for now.
