Family GP recommendation needed (dog groomer too!)

Postby RobinB » Thu Dec 29, 2016 11:25 am

Hello! I am new to London, moved here one month ago with my family from the US. I'm looking for recommendations in the SW18 area:
Dog groomer
Pediatrician (or family GP) nearby
Thank you for any referrals!

The Lavender Hill GP is an excellent family practice but probably just out of your area...

That's a large area -- which part of SW18 are you in?

If you're at the St John' Hill end I recommend Haider GP, especially also for children.

We don't really have separate paediatricians working outside a hospital context (or obs/gyns) like you do in the US. Everything is done through your GP (who can refer you on but won't for most things). Your choice of GP is dependent on the catchment area of the local surgery (group of GPs) unless you want to pay for a private one. There's a private GP practice on Bellevue Road and Thurleigh Group Practice take private patients. I lived in the US a few years back so I know the system over there is quite different from ours.

Whatever you do, don't join 'A Kumars' on Balham Hill - worst practice I have been to in my life

Hi there

if you can go a little outside SW18, then I wholeheartedly recommend The Coyne Family Practice in Parsons Green as both Drs there are amazing. You can always get same day appointments, they have great hours and they always call a day afterwards to check in on the patient and see how they are feeling and whether they have any more questions.

Dr Coyne was the only Dr ( we saw about 6 other Drs first, as well as a Hospital specialist) who properly diagnosed my daughter after 8 hellish months of me not knowing what was wrong with her ( silent reflux, lactose intolerant and a few other things) - if I remember righty he is a trained paediatrician and great with kids.

I cannot recommend them highly enough, they re a great family practice for the whole family.

Dear Robin & Family,

Happy New Year! Welcome to Wandsworth!

Re: Dog Groomer: www.harrysdogcare.com

I would recommend the lovely Aroa Sanchez Gonzalez.

Aroa has set up a local dog walking / boarding & grooming company called Harry's Dog Care. Her contact details can be found in her website: www.harrysodgcare.com.

I know Aroa personally...she is very lovely and really friendly. Aroa is Mummy to a rescue dog, and is an experienced dog walker, boarder and groomer. She has many happy local customers in Clapham & Wandsworth.

Aroa has a portable grooming salon in her large van and can visit your house to groom your beloved dog.
Please do get in touch with her.

PS: I have set up a friendly dog group on Facebook called 'Common Dog'.

It's for all things related to dogs in and around Clapham. You can chat with other friendly local dog owners, network, ask questions, share information, post photos of your dog etc. Please do join us :-)

Here's the link to our group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/343360205806453/

Kind Wishes.

I would highly recommend Dr Curran and Partners on Clapham Manor Street. This is an excellent GP practice with wonderful GP's, nurses and receptionists. A lot of their service are online so you can get an appointment outside normal hours. Its relatively easy to make an appointment although like most GP's it can be difficult calling in the morning. They also offer late appointments for those who work and struggle to attend 9-5 and telephone appointments if you just need to ask a question.
