Brandlehow reception class intake shrinking

Postby Moomin » Sun Oct 01, 2017 1:37 pm

Hi everyone.

As a result of the recent consultation into class sizes at Brandlehow school the decision has been made to halve the intake from 60 to 30 from Sept 2018. This is quite catastrophic for those of us living nearby who don't already have an older child at the school. One of the options at the consultation was to make an interim measure of a class size of 45 which would allow a buffer for the extra siblings and free up some places for the local residents. Would anyone be in a similar position to me and be interested in meeting up to discuss options? We, and I think around 5 other families, are less than 100m from the school.

The consultation document seems quite clear that the school doesn't have the space to continue with the bulge classes

Do you think you would fail to get a place at Oasis Academy Putney, or Granard Primary School or West Hill Primary School ? They seem to be the suggested alternatives?

A class of 45 definitely sounds more promising than a class size of 30. We live round the corner and Brandlehow is our first choice for reception. What has to happen to get this interim class size of 45 approved?

Thanks for the replies, our house backs on to the school (80m away) and it just seems crazy that most likely a whole intake would be made up of siblings, seeing as the situation has been perpetuated by allowing a large catchment for years, then not accounting for the sibling bulge created by halving the intake instead of decreasing slowly to 45.

I have no idea how they/the council would be convinced by creating an intake of 45 though.

Would prefer not to travel for 1 hour return journey each day on foot when there is a school less than 30 seconds walk away!

Hi Moomin and Mumputn2 - Did you get in ?

Do you have any reviews of the school? We are evaluating it for our LO.
