Chimney pots in Lambeth: can I just remove them

Postby Caroline Mills » Wed Nov 22, 2017 11:15 am

I live in Lessar Avenue, Clapham South, and have a chimney pot that looks dangerous and I want to remove it.
Can I just get a builder to remove, or do I need planning permission etc?
Been trying to get help from Lambeth for two weeks but hopeless.
Can anyone advise please?
Lessar Avenue is not a conservation area.
Many thanks,
Caroline

Hi I think you need to contact the council as a lot can go wrong being it external before proceeding health and safety first at least get their opinion that way you cover yourself .

You need to get a builder to replace it. If you leave it open rain will fall down the chimney and possibly create damp inside your wall.

Hello
We are just neighbouring in Wandsworth and our neighbours had to get planning permission to remove the chimney from the roof as it is structural. Saying that they didn’t consider the effect on the rooms which now all have severe damp issues for to no ventilation.

Something to consider

Good luck
