Making a Ring! Looking for ring/diamond shops in London and Brighton

Postby muminswlondon » Thu Apr 06, 2017 3:39 pm

Hi
My partner and I are going ring shopping this weekend (very excited!) and I think I am moving towards selecting a diamond and having a ring made and wanted to see what recommendations there are in London and Brighton?
Many thanks!

Jade Jewellers in Hatton Garden

We had my engagement ring made there, and have since recommended them to lots of friends and family, and have only heard great things.
They refashioned some old jewelry into new things for my sister recently, and did an amazing job at a great price

Exactly. Go to Hatton gardens and get a diamond, and then make a setting. Never get a ring that is just displayed in a shop. Never go to tiffanys.

The best part of buying a diamond is that you get to look at all the diamonds in their velvet pouches and use the magnifying glass in your eye and act like James Bond.

Nic from Asquiths on Northcote Road designed and made mine. Great service and saved a fortune. He sources the stones so you can have a look and choose first, then he/you can design the setting.

My mother in law is a jewelry trader - if you know what you are looking for an an approximate budget I can arrange for you to meet and you can take a look at what she had. If you have something specific in mind she can probably find it for you. She's based in Sussex so between London and Brighton but can come to London.

Definitely go and see W&W on Webbs Road before you spend any money in Hatton Gardens. Stones are much better value due to their location, pieces are beautifully made and the service is fabulous.

I would definitely recommend Ring in Brighton - they specialise in modern designs and work with unusual cuts of diamond, such as marquise. They made a wonderful new engagement ring for me when I lost my original, which had been made in HK. They are based in the Lanes, where there are lots of other jewellers, but I think the others mainly sell vintage. If you go to Brighton for the day, be sure to have a drink or lunch at Riddle & Finns, a fab seafood place also in the Lanes. Enjoy!

Have a look at Ruth at Heirloom London, who regularly makes engagement rings. She provides a wonderful service and her results are stunning.

I'd highly recommend not going to a chain jewellers like De Beers / Tiffany / HW - all of them add a HUGE amount to the cost of the product due to the name and their marketing campaigns and you are sacrificing on diamond cut and quality.

I did the GSI course a few years ago and spend a brief spell working at one of the above.

I would like to suggest Anne Bailey who made my engagement ring for me when she was the jewellery designer for Hirsh (she was there for many years). She is now working independently so likely to charge less than a big name jeweller for the same product. She will design something bespoke for you. I can PM you more contact details if you wish (she may not want them published for all to see) but you can also contact her via her website which is www.annebailey.co.uk

We used W&W on Webbs Road for my engagement ring and our wedding rings and were delighted by the service. They can either design the ring for you based on what you like and after a very thorough discussion or suggest rings of the same style from their shop in Kent, which they'll bring to you in the Webbs road shop.
Our budget was not big but they never made us feel like we were not aiming high enough. And it's great to go local!

Another vote for W&W on Webbs Road, they made both our engagement and wedding rings. I couldn't find any designs I liked in the shops so they made exactly the ring I wanted and love it! :) Friendly service dont feel like you're being ripped off.
