When the time comes for an old dog

Postby olive » Sat Aug 27, 2016 9:54 am

Our dog is very old and slowing down and we know we must be prepared for his inevitable death.
Could someone advise on a trustworthy pet cremation service in SW London?
We would prefer individual cremation but understand there are a lot of rip-off pet funeral services out there.

Both our dogs have been looked after by Silvermere pet haven, it's in Silvermere, Surrey between Cobham and Woking.
Our first dog we took there ourselves, our second the Vet arranged, although I'm told this is the go to place that most Vet Surgery use when owners want a cremation. Expect to pay between 200-250.

Chestnut Lodge, East Grinstead. Anders at All Creatures vet surgery made the arrangements for a separate cremation for our old girl a while back. Their direct number is 01342 712976.

We scattered her on the common, and sprinkled a little on the neighbour's cat that used to annoy her.

addled and Sid_Poopdecker,

Thank you very much.
It breaks my heart to see he is getting weaker and weaker. But I'd try to stay strong.....

Sorry to hear you're reaching this sad stage of life with your dog. Before deciding or taking anyone else's advice, you might want to take a look at this website http://www.petcremationservices.co.uk/p ... rminology/
for some background information about pet crematoriums as its a bit of a minefield.

If it's individual cremation you are after I would definitely take a look at Dignity Pet Crematorium http://www.dignitypetcrem.co.uk/.
They are a lovely family run business and it's so worth the trip out of London down the M3 as it is such a lovely place. They really make you and your pet feel special. I have been there many a time with my own cats/dog and as a vet myself I know what goes on behind the scenes too and have worked with them for over a decade. They treat all animals with the respect they deserve even when no one is looking. They also set up the regulatory body that strives for true individual cremation which (believe it or not) is not necessarily the case with all pet crematoriums.

Also, have you thought about having a home visiting vet service when the sad time comes for euthanasia or even for the end of life comfort care which can really help ensure his quality of life is monitored and optimised? Being at home can really help reduce the stress for all concerned. This link may help http://dignified-departures.co.uk/directory/4573203946 or alternatively search google for "mobile vet" or "home visit vet".

Hope this helps
