Holiday ideas with 6 month old

Postby nightmonkey » Mon Mar 02, 2015 7:31 am

Hi, I am sure this topic has been posted a few times, so apologies for repetition. We will have a 6 month old in June and we are looking for somewhere sunny to go in Europe (possibly Caribbean). We have been on holiday with our son and know that the easiest way to enjoy ourselves would be to have a room with poolside access, or large balcony. Open to anything - self-catering, all-inclusive, but would like to be in/close to a village for buying supplies and strolling, good (enough) health care access and keeping in mind baby is weaning age. Hoping to not spend a fortune, so realise our requirements might be wishful thinking. Any ideas?

I'd highly recommend Caserio del Mirador in southern Spain.

If you stay in the Ferdinand room (as we did with our 6 month old) there is a large balcony/terrace right outside which is part sunny and part shady - perfect - then a few steps up to the pool. The other rooms have terraces or balconies too. There is a kitchenette in the room but lovely food is available, as much or as little as you want (including home made baby purees).

it's not in a town or village though (it's up in the hills with wonderful views) so it's a short drive to get to any shops but the owners will usually have anything you need in a hurry anyway!

Price is very reasonable.

Have a look at babyfriendlyboltholes or Tots Too for some other ideas.

We stayed at the Marbella in Corfu last June while doing baby weaning for my youngest daughter (we were also traveling with a 2 year old). They had newly renovated large rooms that had nespresso machines, lounge area and other facilities. We were upgraded from a 1 bedroom suite to a 2 bedroom which had a garden at the front, deckchairs and outdoor seating with fab views of the sea which was great while the baby was sleeping so we did not feel stuck in a hotel room 4 hours a day.

When we went in June the children ate for free on all inclusive and they would puree any food for us and were very friendly about all the mess our girls created while at meals. They have about 5 restaurants so quite a bit of choice and several pools (including childrens waterpark pool) as well as a beach. The other reason we chose the resort was it had a brand new ofsted registered creche with UK staff who had studied childcare and could look after very young children. The creche and babysitting was an additional charge but was good having piece of mind with qualified staff.

Only downside is that it is not in a village but apparently there is a local bus that stops outside the hotel and goes into town. When we were there the hotel did a free sailing trip into town once a week on their boat but we did not get around to doing that.

Have a look at the Radisson Blu hotel in Croatia, which includes options for self catering and you can even hire a private nanny to help out with your 6 month old (exclusively through Tots Too)

There's 15% off at the moment too!
