'The amazing independents are not sustainable any longer because you want the posh shops but not the prices, you want the notoriety of places you can pamper yourselves and your kids but don't want shopkeepers who challenge, say it straight or actually care about this road and how it has changed by the consumer who only wants a totally self-indulgent spoilt lifestyle'

A cafe with fresh pastries/sandwiches that don't cost a fortune? Something like Gails but with more space at the back and not outrageously priced sandwiches?!?

I'm hoping :) ! Reasonably priced takeaway food for lunch would be perfect. They're close to my house and it seems nothing is confirmed yet due to no responses, so I will gladly update this feed when something does happen.

Cluttons will be closing. It's a decent size shop floor so I wondered what will replace it?

Doesn't surprise me, there's too many estate agents on that road anyway so I always wonder how they manage to stay in business. It seems that most people appear to be opting to stay and extend rather than move.
A pedantic point I know but I do wish they would refer to 'Battersea' rather than 'Clapham' in the article though!

The Gaylord on Battersea Rise is closing...and the Rise 46 bar next door is being refurbished! Wonder if they are expanding or closing down as well? Any info??

There is a sign in the window of The Gaylord to say I dian Moment is opening there
I don't know if that means their Northcote rd restaurant is closing or it's a second branch

Ever tried Akash on Northcote? My personal favourite, real grub with no frills and absolutely delicious. Roll on the weekend!

I was lucky enough to go to Kerela a few years ago. The food was amazing. Never had anything like it here in London. Invariably underwhelmed when I have Indian food locally, ironically I never had 'after effects'(!) in Kerela.

Julian, India is a very big country with very diverse food history!

Southern Indian food, like you tried in Kerala is very different to the northern indian/bangladeshi food which is the main-stay of British indian restaurants, so you wouldn't expect to have anything like it in anywhere other than a Keralan restaurant
Just like Spanish tapas wouldn't taste much like German food!

There are some great South Indian/Goan/Keralan restaurants in Tooting, and Sri Lankan food (as found in the lovely place in Balham) can be quite similar to Keralan food

Ha, I get the geography bit, if you know of a specific South Indian/Kerelan restaurant, do let me know. Or is 'the lovely place' an actual restaurant? Thanks. :D
