These are Wandsworth's best primary schools for Key Stage 2 results in 2017

Postby admin (daniella) » Fri Dec 15, 2017 11:26 am

''The best performing primary schools in Wandsworth in the Key Stage 2 tests have been revealed.

Primary school league tables are now out for 2017 with schools ranked by what percentage of its students are meeting the expected standard.

The expected standard is based on a series of national curriculum tests at the end of Key Stage 2 which take place for mathematics, English reading and English grammar, punctuation and spelling.

A student's raw score is then scaled because despite tests being developed each year to the same specification, the questions are different and the difficulty of tests may vary.''

Here is a breakdown of the table, with their percentage next to it:

1. Our Lady of Victories Catholic Primary School (96)

2. Honeywell Junior School (94)

3. Brandlehow Primary School (93)

4. Chesterton Primary School (93)

5. Sheringdale Primary School (91)

6. Our Lady Queen of Heaven Roman Catholic School (90)

7. Belleville Primary School (89)

8. Holy Ghost Catholic Primary School (87)

9. Trinity St Mary's Church of England CofE Primary School (87)

10. St Mary's CofE Primary School (86)

It would be good to also publish the overall performance table as it is based on progress rather than attainment which can offer a more realistic picture of how well schools are performing.

Well said Pud1

Lists like this of numbers of children achieving a certain level tell us more about the intake of a school than they do about quality of teaching and learning. Many excellent Wandsworth schools will never make it anywhere near this list because their pupils arrive with little or no English, high levels of deprivation and are highly mobile - often moving on just as they are starting to progress towards average standards only to be replaced by other children with very high levels of need and low starting points.

Indeed. The progress made by individual children gives a much better indication of the impact of the teaching and the overall performance of the school.

The table lists a percentage reaching the expected minimum or above that took Sats.
There are some anomalies. Some state schools lose many pupils to the independent sector at year 5. I would have thought that would allow focus by teachers on those remaining, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Teacher and parent expectation have so much to do with the lack of ambition and eventual attainment of our children.
Wandsworth Council... C+ but must try harder.
