Giving back in the festive season

Postby ckwmum » Sun Nov 12, 2017 5:07 pm

Hi everyone,

I am a member of a community group called The Welcome Committee https://www.facebook.com/TheWelcomeComm ... nityGroup/

https://twitter.com/WelCommittee @WelCommittee

We are working to bring two refugee families from Syria over to London to start a new life here. We'll be helping them every single step of the way, so that they can settle here and rebuild their lives after all the heartbreak and trauma they have faced.

It is a long process, but has already been incredibly inspiring and heart-warming as everyone I talk to about this wants to get involved.

If you're interested in helping, perhaps as a way of giving back in the run-up to Christmas, there are a few ways you can help.

1 I've made some vouchers so that if any kids want to give to The Welcome Committee, they can ask to have one less present this Christmas and give to these families instead. I have attached the voucher to this post. If you want to know more about this first I can talk to you about it. I am visiting a few schools to talk about the work we're doing and would be happy to do more. Every child that donates will get a special certificate to thank them for their generosity.

2 You can donate directly to the work here: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/welcomecommittee I can assure you that every single penny will go towards the families - buying clothes, food, school uniforms, rent - anything we can help with. Your money will have a huge impact.

3 There are lots of other organisations looking for help at this time of year. You could donate or buy presents for a refugee mother and baby group: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/help-refu ... -christmas
Or donate unwanted coats to people living on the streets: https://www.collectplus.co.uk/blog/wrap-london-2017/
Or if you have any unwanted, unused beauty products you could donate, or could buy from Amazon, there's a great organisation looking for just that: http://www.tinyurl.com/givetoWRW

Thanks for reading this, and if you have any questions or are interested in finding out more, please get in touch!

Have a wonderful festive season!

Hi again, I have just found out that this group not only helps refugees get bikes so they have an affordable way to get around London, they sell great bikes and bike related kit. If your child would like a bike for Christmas, consider buying from them to make your gift go even further:
