new Chestnut Grove fish and chips place

Postby parsleysong » Thu Sep 14, 2017 1:45 pm

Has anyone tried it? Is it good? Or is it one of those places that charge £10 for a sliver of fish and 5 "hand-cut" chips? I drove past it today and the re-fit looks really nice. If I don't hear back we'll probably go tomorrow night and report back. :D

Hi
It's amazing!

Mr NVN has been a few times and actually came back last night with some (after a few work drinks).

It's expensive but totally gorgeous.

Portions are MASSIVE though, two adults and a child shared one portion last night although daughter and I didn't have a lot...

Do let know what you think too...

mmm, sounds good. You've made my mouth water. Did you get take-away?

Also, what's the fish and chip place on Northcote Road like? Is it the same place that's been there for ages and just done a re-fit? No problem with that as I like traditional fish and chips.

Yes, run by the same couple since 1979, a true Northcote Road legend: https://www.seafarefishbar.com

Fish is amazing, and the people super-friendly, the entire family loves it. Great to sit outside (in summer) too, and they also do cooked breakfasts etc.

Did you go?

I noticed the Standard had a write up of a few in London and mentioned Kerbisher & Malt on Abbeville Road...

It's really good. Now my favourite in Balham. Never eaten in, but very generous portions and lovely, non greasy food

Hi Annabel, no didn't get there last night but will be going any time soon. Great to hear that your takeaway was a success Jen as I prefer eat fish and chips at home (ideally on the sofa in front of the telly, slob-like! ).

Can confirm the portions at the Chestnut Grove place are massive. They even gave me an extra piece of fish as they thought the two they had originally fried looked a bit small (they weren't). Lovely guys that run it, super friendly.
