Re: ADD Child struggling with friendships

Have you considered medication? You are saying she is not medicated as she doesn’t exhibit “typical” traits? What ARE typical traits in your view? Daydreaming/anxiety are definitely typical traits in girls. If you mean she is not hyperactive, girls seldom are - that’s why in the past they were misse...

Re: is it reasonable to ask teenagers to isolate so grandparents can visit?

Obviously, these things are very personal and you'll get multiple points of view. I personally think it's completely ridiculous given they are coming to YOU not the other way around. If they are so risk averse, they really shouldn't travel or mix with people at all. If you were visiting them (and ac...

Re: Looking for womens bike

I've got a Giant Liv (would have to check precise model) and Bobbin Birdie. I will try to dig out pictures. Bought them 3 years ago and never took to cycling in London really. Let me know if you might be interested. I am in SW17 though.

Re: Holiday inspiration

Another vote for Sani

Also, depending on the budget you can choose the level of luxury. I think Asteria Suites there have their own section of the beach.

I haven't been to Costa Navarino but understand that it's similar to Sani

Re: Help us find a child therapist for anger management

Jacqueline van Roosmalen (www.vanrosetherapy.com) in Dulwich is brilliant, but very booked up so you'll have limited choice of time slots. However, she is a child/adolescent psychotherapist not a psychologist (so not a CBT approach). I do think it's important to understand the underlying issues befo...

Re: Broomwood - parents opinions please

Re Broomwood, I would like to emphasise that my child was very happy and I can't fault the pastoral care aspect of it - something I am missing in the secondary school. I also think Mrs Jenkinson is a great headmistress with spot on advice who knows all the girls incredibly well. However, it's defini...

Re: Broomwood - parents opinions please

It's a good school - in your e-mail you are not saying where you are moving from, i.e. another private school or state school. If the latter, of course, you'd get better facilities, smaller classes, etc. as with any private school. We enjoyed our experience there, but if I were choosing again, I'd g...

Re: Educational psychologist advice

Every school has a list of EdPsych (and other experts) they work with and recommend to parents (independent schools it is, state schools work with the LEA) so Annie Mitchell was the one that Hornsby worked with at the time (among others I am sure). The results don't help you as such but they indicat...

Re: Educational psychologist advice

This sounds right. We had one done 5 years ago and paid £550-570 or thereabouts. This charge seemed standard at the time. However, I was also recommended someone who charged £750 but she had a 6-7 month waiting list. With ours we waited 6 weeks. So 5 years on, I imagine the prices have gone up and wh...

Re: Applying for Permanent Residency as a EU National - HELP!

You don't have to send your passport - you can send a national ID card instead. That's what I did - I applied for one especially for this purpose as I never needed it before. My embassy did it in 2 weeks. My understanding from German friends is that their embassy is facilitating this process as well...

Re: Electrician recommendation - lights gone on one floor

Alchemy, Papinian,

Many thanks for your recommendations. I will be getting quotes (and second opinion on whether I need a rewire) and shall report back on how it went.

Electrician recommendation - lights gone on one floor

The lights on one of the floors in our house are gone (but not the sockets) - got an emergency electrician and he says that the problem must be with the wires/joints (?) that he can't access so the whole floor needs to be rewired. This electrician only does emergency call outs so I need to find some...

Re: Opticians with good designer choice?

I go to Eyediology in Commercial Street (Aldgate) - they have a very good selection and some nichy stuff as well. I make sure Laura is there - she is brilliant at helping you choose frames.
