Re: Private Primary - how to decide (Broomwood/Hornsby/Thomas's)

I second balhamnewmum.  A lot to be said for gut feel. They are all great schools. There will always be positives and negatives but I don't think there is a wrong move here. You mention it's for 2024 entry so assume you're signed up for all 3? Thomas's tends to close their registration list very ear...

Re: Newton Prep or Eaton House The Manor?

We had a similar choice 4 years ago with Parkgate/NP. In fact I think I posted here(!) and we ended up deciding the longer commute was worth it.  We live off Southside and as Moonlightdawn mentioned, the commute is a bit of a faff (20-30 mins for us all in) but it quickly became part of the routine....

Re: swimming classes for kids

I found the same. Classes are relatively inexpensive there but not good value for all the reasons you mention. We switched to 1:1 lessons at the same place which were still cheaper than most and that worked well but they didn't start them back up again post-Covid for some reason.  So now we're with ...

Islabikes balance bike in red for sale

Rothan Islabike for sale in red. Bought new in 2017 and only used for a few months. In great condition with only a few nicks (shown in pics - I have more if you’d like to see them) that are not that visible. A great little bike that in my experience encourages the step up to a pedal bike quite quick...

Re: Father Christmas

I like the sound of the activities! These two are also lovely and don't think booking opens for a few weeks at least: http://www.crockfordbridgefarm.co.uk/Events/father-christmas-secret-forest. - you get taken through the woods on a story adventure acted out by different characters (adding your Chri...

Re: Thomas’s Clapham for entry Sept 2020

We were in this exact position a couple of years ago and didn't end up getting an assessment in the end - there was no movement on the list whatsoever that year.  It does look like there is quite a bit of movement around school places in general at the moment due to Brexit so it could be different t...

Re: Screen time and young children

Agree with the Parent Practice.  On balance I'm pro-screens. My nearly 6 year old and (shock horror!) 3.5 year old use iPads sometimes - but not a great deal and never anywhere that we can't monitor what they are doing. They're not allowed them in their rooms, they need to check with us if they are ...

Re: Do fee paying schools offer help if you get into financial difficulty

One other thing to consider when budgeting (on top of a potential 20% VAT hike!) is that school fees tend to rise every year - typically 4-5%.  And that's compound interest so does rack up quite quickly.

Re: Newton Prep school reception 2019

My daughter is in Year 1 at NP and we love it.  I'd say that it is academically ambitious, but I certainly didn't feel that in Reception which was a good mix of fun and learning.  More so this year which is definitely a step up, but the kids seem well supported through it. They try and get them a ye...

Dolls house toddler bed - FREE

We have a toddler bed going free for anyone who could use it.  It has served my daughter well from the age of 2 to 5 and still has life in it so we don't want to throw it away.  It's in 2 pieces as we've only partially disassembled it so you might need to collect it in a van or car with back seats d...

Almo Nature cat food - free to a good home!

We have 30+ tins of Almo Nature cat food going free if anybody could use it? Our cat went missing about 18 months ago and we've finally accepted he's not coming back so would like another cat to have it rather than throw it away.  It's all still within its best before date -  until Nov 2019. Let me ...

Re: Looking for a kind, fun after school nanny Mon-Thurs (Clapham/Battersea)

We're still looking so wanted to bump and add that we can be flexible and go down to 3 days per week (Mon-Thurs) if this suits better.

Thanks!

Re: Private chickenpox vaccine for our toddler

I'd really recommend Orbis Pharmacy on Clapham High Street. We used them last year and it was really quick, convenient and people were lovely  - an all round easy experience.  It was also cheaper (and felt less stressful for the child) than a couple of years ago when I had my eldest vaccinated at a ...
