Re: Reckless driver in Stormont Road / Clapham Northside

We have a cargo bike and have used it daily for the last 2 years with no issue around the neighbourhood. My kids and I wear a helmet and we’re careful using it, using bike paths when we can. I think it is a wonderful form of transport which is positive for the environment and alleviates pressure on ...

Re: Is having a 'bump' o a class night out usual?

In answer to your original question, no I wouldn’t say this is normal practice. We haven’t seen it at any of the class parties that we’ve been to over the last 5 years (another sure why it matters, but yes, our children go to a private school). Maybe it is going on and we’re just not included! I dou...

Afterschool nanny/housekeeper wanted for 20-25 hours a week

Hi,  We're looking for an after-school nanny to help out with our independent, fun children who are aged 8 and 10. We need someone to start immediately. Duties would mainly involve cooking them dinner, picking them up from school, taking them to clubs and after school events, overseeing their homewo...

Re: Caterer for a party of 50 at home

I’d highly recommend Ruth Waygill from Forkful foods. We’ve had her cater for two work Christmas parties and a 40th at our house and the food has been delicious and wait staff great.

Good luck!

Re: Are independent schools better than state? Primary.

I agree it depends. The head of my child’s prep school has said herself that there is very little difference between attainment on core subjects such as English and maths between state and independent, the difference comes in the other subjects and potentially in the pastoral care. The advantage in ...

Re: New Collective Artist Studio & Classes opening soon! Art enthusiasts - please help me by giving your opinion :) !

I’d be interested in adult drop in classes for painting or drawing. Also for holiday classes for kids.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but there is a fantastic adults art school on lavender hill so worth checking our their offerings as a comparison.

Thanks

Re: massive £20/13% increase in Spencer Cricket fees for 2022

Plenty of state schools kids in my sons group so not sure what this poster is talking about.

Yes they ask for parental involvement but no different to Spencer and wayfarers hockey, or other sports that my kids are involved in.

Re: Newton Prep or Eaton House The Manor?

Just to add, we have two children and EHTM and find it isn’t nearly as traditional as the uniform would suggest! My daughter hates pink and frozen and is very happy there, despite the compulsory ballet. I really didn’t want the single sex element either and fully plan to send my kids to co-Ed second...

Re: Low Ovarian Reserve

Hi, There is hope - I had an AMH of 0.7 at 34 and now have 2 gorgeous kids, born naturally. We went to the lister initially and they were good if you get the right doctor. They were good at explaining that all you need is one egg, one high quality egg is as good as lots of average ones. We got pregn...

Re: Looking for Nuserys

Agree with the above. There was a perception that marmalade cat and mouse hole were feeders for Thomas’s but it was never 100% true, and with the lottery system that no longer applies.

We have children at Eaton house and lthe other kids come from a wide range of nurseries. Don’t stress!

Re: Breast Augmentation

Generally I’d say that it really isn’t the done thing around here, we’re not on love island. I’m sure some people have had work done but if so it is discrete. I considered it after breastfeeding but decided that it wasn’t necessary as my body recovered over time. I think it’s a fabulous thing to do ...

Re: Tutoring on top of private prep school

Agree. Maybe it occurs later, but we haven’t gotten to year 3 and the only tutoring that we’ve seen is the kids going for 7+ Exams, and even then it has been in 1 or 2 weaker subjects.

I’m sure it is there but none of our closest friends feel the need.

Adult piano lessons

Hi All,

We bought a piano during lockdown and husband is really enjoying playing it. He is a beginner and I’d like to get him some lessons.
Can anyone recommend someone who teaches adults? I’m not sure how different it is to teaching children?

Thanks

Re: want to move my family back to Aus

I have often thought the same ktk - it is all so easy when you’re young and you fall in love not quite understanding the ramifications for later in life! I’d be interested to hear more about the differences in schooling since you’ve done both. You said your kids had to ‘catch-up’ when they came back...

Re: want to move my family back to Aus

Seems like we’ve found a support group for Aussies missing home :-) I too am in a similar position - have been here 17 years, married a Brit and have 2 kids. We’ve always talked of trying life over there ‘one day’ but the goalposts keep moving, and my husband really won’t consider it because of his ...
