Re: Wandsworth Sash windows, avoid is an understatement

We've used SPS timber windows, based in Southfields, twice and although they are expensive and have a long lead time, they are absolutely fantastic and have transformed the rooms we have fitted them in from freezing to really toasty. Really high quality windows and the fitters are very professional....

Re: Messy parents

tell me about it - I was in wagamama in south side the other day where a group of parents and their children were eating at the next door table. The children were screaming, running around (including into the kitchens) and throwing food on the floor and the parents totally ignored them as they were ...

Re: Should I dismiss my nanny?

Do not just dismiss her for being "in breach of contract". Her actions would need to amount to gross misconduct to warrant immediate dismissal without notice and as Abbeville Mummy rightly says, you don't have the full facts and you need to at least speak to her before terminating without ...

Re: Where are the best places to shop for bathroom refurb go

Another vote for Bathrooms at source. Their customer service is exceptional. They recently supplied and fitted a bathroom for us and we are really happy with the end result. Plus they are a local family business and keep their prices competitive, especially if you are on a budget.

Re: Do you tip packers and movers?

we did - mainly because it looked like such hard work and they didn't stop all day. I expect they were on minimum wage (or close to) and I wanted them to get some reward for their hard work.

Re: carpet fitter: recommendations please

we've just used Osborne Flooring (formerly Wall-to-Wall Flooring which we got from some glowing recommendations on this board) - the owner Mick Osborne is really helpful and does a lot of the fitting himself, and prices very reasonable. We're really happy with them. http://www.osborneflooringltd.co....

Re: Southfields vs Furzedown - where would you live?

Prices in Southfields have risen ridiculously quickly in the last 18 months as well. 3 bed unmodernised terraces now on market for £900k. Crazy. It is a nice area though.

Re: Would like to get a dog but which one?

Before you decide which dog to get please please remember that all dogs need companionship, stability and exercise. This means they need a daily walk (doesn't have to be a long one), not to be left alone for more than a few hours (ie not all day) and not to be passed around between different people ...

Re: SW Loft Conversion Advice

Loft companies tend to quote around the £40-45k mark, although we had a qoute for £80k from one!! Instructing a builder direct might cost slightly less but you'll need to factor in the cost of an architect on top as loft companies tend to have in-house people to do the plans. Often the following are...

Re: Anyone bought/sold house after private approach?

I think it's worth a shot but many others will have had the same idea as you so don't get your hopes up. Where we live we get these personal approaches at least once a month. But I do know someone who this worked for, although the people they bought off didnt discount the house to take account of th...
