The contractor appears to have several limited companies but my contract is with him as a sole trader which (I think) helps me as it means he can't shut the company down.  He definitely has money. He lives in a very nice house that he owns, drives a £40k car and one of his labourers told me he owns ...

Has anyone ever sued a builder /taken them to the small claims court?

I feel this is the way we are heading with the contractors who did our side return kitchen extension.  The project has been signed off by building control, although there have subsequently been huge issues with leaks in the new roof.  The standard of work inside is appalling. The decorating is messy...

Side return extension question

Just wondering whether to have opaque or clear glass in the Velux windows? We're terraced,  so overlooked.  I am questioning if opaque just looks dirty.  I know you can get blinds for but they seem a big faff. It's fine as long as you don't contravene bylaws.

A gazebo is fine as long as you take it away with you and don't obstruct any pathways.

As long as there is no loud music and - presumably - you're not selling alcohol - there won't be an issue.

I agree. I don't think the frequency of the trains is the issue. Unless there's an incident they are usually every 1-2 minutes during peak time. The problem is the sheer volume of people.

If Clapham North is your station then why not get the bus down to Stockwell and board there? As others have said you cannot board a rush hour train at Clap North. GPs most definitely do prescribe bio identical hormones. You may have to be pushy, as some would rather dish out the synthetic ones.

I do think some of the demands being made in petition are a bit daft. Removal of litter bins? That's just going to lead to loads more littering - already a huge problem in the area, mostly due to the children from the school. A designated person to help them cross the road? I had a consultation with David Gartry at Moorfields - very detailed, lots of tests and no pressured sell. So much so that in the end i decided not to proceed as it wouldn't have hugely benefited me, since I don't currently need glasses for computer work but would after laser surgery.

I think it must be pretty hard for any coffee shop to thrive in Balham.

Unless they have a big trade in takeaways/passing commuters, then surely they're just full of home workers on laptops and mums with buggies who hog a table and only spend a few quid?

I think people do want period detail in period homes. I think taking chimney breasts out in kitchens and smaller bedrooms is fine but I would be disappointed to see one ripped out of a living room
