Four OWs selected for U21 international hockey tournament
Last Updated on : 6th October 2015

Old Whitgiftians Rhys Smith (East Grinstead HC), Jack Waller (Wimbledon HC), Luke Taylor (Loughborough Students HC) and Jonty Griffiths (Loughborough Students HC) have all been selected by England Hockey to be part of the GBU21 squad competing in the Sultan of Johor Cup. The international U21 hockey tournament, hosted in Malaysia, is a good indication of who England Hockey has their sights set on for the next Olympics cycle. Last year’s Sultan of Johor Cup saw Great Britain reach the final; regrettably, they were narrowly beaten by India 2-1.

Dr Karl Stagno, Whitgift’s Head of Hockey, commented, “We are so proud to regularly have boys involved in tournaments like these. Our school program aims to prepare boys for school sport and beyond; to see so many Whitgift boys excelling at the highest level after their time at Whitgift fills us with a great sense of accomplishment. We wish them the best of luck in Malaysia.”
