Celebrating science at Alleyn’s School

Charlotte 3Science students at Alleyn’s School will spend British Science Week studying a range of animals as the school transforms one of its state of the art laboratories into a temporary zoo. The company ‘Reptile Life’ will be visiting the school, bringing with them a range of animals including; pythons, tarantulas, skunks, meerkats, a crocodile and a boa constrictor. From Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 March, pupils from years 7 and 8 and from Year 12 will be using the animals as the basis for study of various course-related topics.

The school will also be running a lecture programme throughout the week, focusing on scientific concepts such as Charles Darwin and Natural Selection, Isaac Newton and Gravity and The Psychology of Evil. These events form part of a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths taking place across the country supported by the British Science Association.

Director of Science at Alleyn’s, Ben Jones explains; ‘While our students are wowed by science every day here at Alleyn’s, it is great to have the particular focus of Science week to celebrate the achievements of scientists across the centuries, and develop a greater excitement and understanding of the various scientific disciplines.”

British Science Week 2017 will take place 10 – 19 March 2017.
